Inaugrual blog/2026 goals

Not only is this my first blog post here, but my first EVER. Kind of wild but I'm making it happen! This could be spurred by my recent wisdom teeth removal, and current Vicodin prescription, but I'm not going to question the motivation too much.

Day of the procedure, I was camped out on my couch with YouTube doing whatever it wanted to as I came in and out of various naps, when the BORNS Electric Love video came on. Excellent song, no complaints coming from me, but I hadn't seen it before. It is just as charmingly 2015 as you'd expect, with tasteful neons and gorgina people, eventually taking an appreciated psychedelic artistic turn.

One image that really caught me was the performer, Garret Clark Borns (whom I'm learning literally right now is a man), wearing this fabulous, fully sequined-out blazer, in this forest setting the video takes place in. Of course there are other interesting things happening visually, but I absolutely love this look. I don't know where this video was shot, but if I had to guess it would be somewhere PNW. But here in the glamorous NWMO, we have some beautiful forests and trails too.

Anyway, I just fell in love with this combo. Yes, yes, the juxtaposition and all that is lovely and pretentions, but I do adore the simple pairing of a chic, shiny sequin look, in an appealing natural environment-- two things that I'm convinced everyone likes to some extent. So I think I'm going to take this music video's inspiration with me this year. I loved some of the more creative and fun shoots I got to do last year, and I want to continue that momentum. I often get stuck in my photography doing projects that I'm often happy with, but rarely feel creative or inspired, more like they just work for what they're needed for. Bringing more intentional creativity into 2026 is important to me, as it's something that used to be much more prevalent in my life that I haven't kept up.

And with that, my 2026 photography goals are (loosely):

  1. Post at least once per month on my FB and IG pages (I know, absolute bare minimum)
  2. Convince one of my friends to do a purely creative shoot
  3. Write a blog post at least 3 other times this year
  4. Do something that makes my photography feel more legitimate as a business (still deciding if that's like, getting a biz license, or what...)
  5. Photograph my new sweet nephew!! And my friend's new baby arriving in spring!! Babies all around, truly.

I think these are all attainable, but I could never lie and say I'm a "goals" person. But I do think I'm coming into 2026 with an undeniable air of change, whether I want it or not. But maybe that's just the Vicodin talking.

More to come,

Olivia
